COLUMBUS — “American Electric Power Company Inc. still plans to pursue a big chunk of new renewable energy projects in Ohio – as long as state regulators clarify some issues.

One of the central planks of the utility’s proposal to guarantee income for some of its coal-fired power plants in the state was the commitment to add 400 megawatts of solar power generation and 500 megawatts of wind-generated power, a stipulation that helped get Sierra Club approval for it in December.

…But last week AEP said it would drop most of the proposal after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission stepped in and said it needed to review the deal, leaving the renewable energy commitment in limbo.

AEP (NYSE:AEP) now says it wants to pursue the renewable energy portion of the proposal, as long as the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio answers some lingering questions. The company wants the commission to clarify or reverse its order that AEP focus first on solar projects, and it wants to ensure that AEP can own up to half of the projects.”
