Avon Council considers changing solicitation hours

AVON — “After catching heat from a state citizen’s action group about infringing on First Amendment rights, Avon City Council is considering changing its solicitation ordinance. If amended, residents could experience solicitors knocking on their doors up to 9 p.m. during summer months.

At last night’s work session, Law Director John Gasior said he had received several calls from the Ohio Citizen Action group, an organization that works to prevent pollution, saying the hours that the city allows for soliciting are ‘unconstitutional.’

‘We’ve gotten several calls from organizations requesting we make changes to our door-to-door ordinance that are in compliance with First Amendment rights,’Gasior said. ‘We’re looking to extend the hours beyond 7 p.m.’”
