Bill key to Davis-Besse’s survival passes in Ohio House

COLUMBUS — “Ohio Citizen Action Executive Director Rachael Belz described HB 6 as starting out as ‘another disappointing example of redistribution of wealth,’ and said it got worse as it went through the Ohio House.

‘This vote also makes us question our legislature’s commitment to improving our economy. If they are so concerned with jobs, they would have removed obstacles to developing in-state wind and solar projects, instead of asking all Ohioans to pay to bailout plants that will be closing sooner rather than later, due to age,’ Belz said in a statement.

After the vote on the bill, Gov. Mike DeWine thanked House Speaker Larry Householder and reiterated his support for nuclear power and carbon-free energy generation as part of the state’s energy portfolio, as well as the jobs provided by the two nuclear plants.

As debate over HB 6 continues statewide, FirstEnergy Solutions moved one step closer in its efforts to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, after a federal judge approved the company’s revised disclosure statement for its reorganization plan May 20.”
