NEW PHILADELPHIA — “The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District board of directors has authorized temporary water sales from two of its lakes — Clendening and Piedmont — to the oil and gas industry for the hydraulic fracturing process.
The decision, made by the board Friday, comes following a vote in June to suspend sales of water to the energy industry pending completion of water availability studies at Atwood, Clendening and Leesville lakes by the U.S. Geological Survey.
While those studies are not expected to be completed until year’s end, the conservancy district said it acted to avoid wear and tear the area’s highways would experience if energy companies trucked in water for their wells.”
