Ohio Citizen Action hosts “No More Pork for FirstEnergy” tour across Ohio

Ohio Citizen Action and our allies will be hosting events across the state, strategically planned to protest House Bill 6 and pressure Ohio lawmakers to follow suit. Please RSVP on Facebook here Cincinnati — Medina  — Bowling Green. More information about each event — in Bowling Green, Cincinnati, and Medina — is below.

Cincinnati — If passed, this bill could have a significant impact on the Cincinnati metro area, which suffers from air pollution produced by Clifty Creek, one of the coal plants that will receive subsidies if this bill passes. Cincinnati has made a commitment to 100% renewable energy by 2035 and residents have long advocated for policies that will reduce the city’s carbon footprint and improve air quality. Cincinnatians should not have to pay more to prolong the life of this dirty plant!

Join us for a Rally and People’s Hearing on Monday June 17 from 10am to noon at Stanbery Park. Bring signs and make your voice heard on this important legislative issue and make sure Senator Wilson knows where the people stand!

Cincinnati-area elected officials and leaders from Ohio’s largest consumer, advocacy, and environmental communities will gather in Stanbery Park in opposition to legislative efforts at the Statehouse to impose a consumer-funded bailout of two FirstEnergy Solutions nuclear plants and two of the area’s dirtiest coal plants. House Bill 6 also repeals the state’s effective renewable energy and efficiency programs, potentially making Ohio the first state in the nation to consider gutting clean energy standards to fund coal and nuclear bailouts.

The event will be hosted in the shadow of a giant inflatable pig, reminding Cincinnati residents that FirstEnergy Solutions wants to bring home the bacon at the expense of all Ohio consumers. Following remarks by Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley, Ohio State Representative Sedrick Denson and others, attendees will have the opportunity to offer brief testimony in response to House Bill 6 to be shared with decision-makers over social media.
