Proposed AEP solar plants in southern Ohio have strong backing at hearing

COLUMBUS — “It was hard to find an opponent at Tuesday’s state hearing over American Electric Power’s proposal to build two solar plants in southern Ohio.

More than 50 people testified at the hearing at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, and all of them glowed about the project from an economic and environmental prospective.

At one point, when one person testifying offered to have those with him stand to show their support for the project, attorney examiner Sarah Parrot quipped, “I think it’s clear that the crowd is in favor of this project.” The crowd of about 150 people laughed.

AEP Ohio announced in September it plans to build 400-megawatts solar-power plant in Highland County as part of a commitment it made in 2016 to develop 900 megawatts of renewable power.”
