Energy / Fixed Rate Hikes

Public hearing on AEP rate hike in Columbus

It isn’t fair to have to pay a lot more on your electric bill every month even if you’re not using more electricity – yet that’s exactly what AEP and other electric companies in the state want. If you’re an AEP customer, you would see your monthly fixed charge go from $8.40 to $18.40. That’s an extra $120 annually, or what you might think of as an extra AEP bill each year.

This fixed charge is a mandatory monthly fee you pay before you even flip on a single switch.

We can stop this from happening, but we need your help!

On Monday, April 17, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) will hold a public hearing in Columbus. This hearing will be one of the very few opportunities members of the public have to directly speak to PUCO staff and Commissioners, the final decision-makers on AEP’s proposal. Please attend and make your voice heard.
