Baard Energy / Coal

Routine review of grant expected

Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray

LISBON — “The state will review the expenditure of grant money used by the Columbiana County Port Authority to secure the rights to purchase property for the Baard Energy project as part of a planned review and not in response to a letter from an advocacy group.

Ohio Citizen Action wrote the Ohio Attorney General last week asking the state’s chief attorney to investigate ‘circumstances surrounding the proposed Baard Energy Ohio River Clean Fuels plant in Wellsville, Ohio.’

The questions posed by Ohio Citizen Action focused in particular on money spent by the port authority to secure options to purchase 522 acres outside of Wellsville for Baard Energy, which proposes to build a $6 billion plant that would convert coal into synthetic liquid fuel.”
