CLEVELAND — In the thirty-seven year history of Ohio Citizen Action, few people have made as important and lasting a contribution as Stephen Gabor. Stephen, who is leaving our staff this week to work with a local business in Cleveland, came to us as a phone canvasser in 1999 and became director of our phone canvass in 2000. In his ten years as phone canvass director, from 2000 to 2010, Stephen built a wonderful staff who raised a total of $7,579,673 to win clean air and clean water campaigns. He developed new ways of communicating with our members and involving them in our campaigns, and led by example with his strong work ethic and keen sense of the role of the organization in fighting injustice in Ohio. In late 2010, Stephen became Cleveland Program Director, and worked on the Kokosing Asphalt good neighbor campaign and the campaign to close FirstEnergy’s four outdated, highly polluting plants on Lake Erie. We wish Stephen all the best and cannot thank him enough for his dedication to Ohio Citizen Action.
