Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
A QCD is generally a direct transfer from an IRA to a qualified charity; it may count toward a donor’s RMD and may be excluded from taxable income when done correctly. IRS guidance notes that many retirement account owners must begin RMDs at age 73, and Schwab explains that QCDs can help donors age 70½ or older give directly from an IRA while potentially reducing the taxable impact of required withdrawals. ([IRS][1])
Giving Through a Qualified Charitable Distribution
A Qualified Charitable Distribution, or QCD, is a tax-smart way for eligible donors to support Ohio Citizen Action Education Fund directly from their IRA. For donors age 70½ or older, a QCD allows funds to be transferred directly from an IRA to a qualified nonprofit organization. For donors who are required to take Required Minimum Distributions, generally beginning at age 73, a QCD may count toward that annual requirement while helping reduce taxable income.
This giving option can be especially meaningful for donors who do not need all or part of their retirement distribution for personal expenses and want to turn that required withdrawal into direct community impact. By using a QCD, donors can support Ohio Citizen Action Education Fund’s work while aligning their retirement assets with their values, long-term charitable goals, and legacy planning.

BEQUESTS
The simplest way to make a planned gift is to add a provision in your will or revocable trust. A bequest need not be in the tens of thousands of dollars to provide a meaningful gift. Just as with annual contributions, gifts of every size matter. Below are common ways to phrase your intentions for your lawyer or estate planner:
Fixed amount: I give and bequeath to Ohio Citizen Action (or Ohio Citizen Action Education Fund), a non-profit organization incorporated by the laws of the State of Ohio, having its principal address at 4400 N. High St. Ste 306 Columbus, OH 43214 the sum of $_____ from my estate to be used as the board of directors directs.
Percentage: I give and bequeath to Ohio Citizen Action (or Ohio Citizen Action Education Fund), a non-profit organization incorporated by the laws of the State of Ohio, having its principal address at 4400 N. High St. Ste 306 Columbus, OH 43214, ____% of the total value of my estate to be used as the board of directors directs.
Bequest of residue: (after probate costs and other expenses) I give and bequeath to Ohio Citizen Action (or Ohio Citizen Action Education Fund), a non-profit organization incorporated by the laws of the State of Ohio, having its principal address at 4400 N. High St. Ste 306 Columbus, OH 43214, the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to be used as the board of directors directs.
