Marcy Kaptur is the longest serving woman in the history of Congress, being first elected in 1983. She is the second-longest serving current Member on the House Appropriations Committee. The history and experience that Kaptur brings to this seat is invaluable for Ohio. She is known to work across the aisle and has had legislative success as a result. 

Consumer Rights

Dedicated her career in public service to fighting for all Ohioans to have a fair playing field as they seek economic and health security. She has helped secure $500,000 for University of Toledo to establish a mobile medical unit. Rolling medical offices can provide a variety of health care services, often to medically underserved and rural areas and hard to reach individuals.

Voting Rights

Co-sponsored The Freedom to Vote Act which would have ensured all Americans could vote in secure, accessible, transparent elections. It would have protected the right to vote, supported local election workers, banned dark money, and ended partisan gerrymandering, allowing our democracy to work for the people.  

Utility Accountability

Initiated an investigation with the Government Accountability Office to determine that the reallocation of funds slated for clean energy development for other energy sources violated appropriations law. The reallocation had widespread impacts including higher energy costs, cancelled university and industry research, and employment cuts at national labs. 

Environment

Consistently votes pro-environment in congress and supports a permanent ban on drilling in the Great Lakes, of which Lake Erie is the shallowest, and a strict ban on diversion of Great Lakes water. 

Anti Corruption

Condemns Ohio’s HB6 utility scandal, the state’s largest bribery scandal in history. Kaptur called for an independent forensic audit into FirstEnergy’s criminal activity, and changes to law, regulations, or policy to prevent this type of scandal from happening again.
